The book explores how the brain-glucose connection affects mental clarity and emotional well-being, provides practical tips for blood glucose management, and suggests tools for assessing dietary needs, lifestyle choices, and natural remedies to assist in the management of blood glucose levels. The intent of the book is for individuals to take charge of their health and prevent diabetes and other health issues. The book provides practical strategies, critical information, and includes a twelve-week challenge to optimize brain health. I found this book very valuable, but sometimes limiting in its nutritional suggestions. For example, the potato is a beneficial nutritional source, containing potassium, amino acids, B6, and helps to stabilize blood sugar. I appreciated the suggestion of mindfulness practices.
This book is jam-packed with great information, especially with breaking down complex biology into ways that make sense for non-biology people :) I've studied a bit about this sort of thing in the past, yet this book opened my eyes to many new ideas I hadn't considered - like ketones, glycemic variability, as well as the variety of ailments that can be linked to glycemic levels. Of course, tons of the book focuses on practical things we can do to prevent those issues. Great read!
The extensive research and science-backed information presented in the book offer a deep understanding of how our bodies and minds are intricately connected through glucose metabolism. The clarity with which these concepts are explained makes it accessible, even for readers who might not have a scientific background.
I'm 70 and was beginning to have high blood pressure issues. When my doctor increased my meds a second time, I decided to take things seriously. With a heart attack, I would either die, or not. But a stroke would be a whole different story I wanted to avoid. It was my good fortune I selected Blood Pressure Down from Amazon. The book is a quick read and gives very simple explanations for what is needed to drop your BP. I am amazed at how easy it was to do the program and how quickly I got results. In just two weeks I got my BP to slightly below normal and even lost a few pounds. In a follow-up visit my doctor reduced my meds and when I report the latest data, she will probably reduce my meds even further. Written by a nutritionist, Blood Pressure Down gives common sense details I needed to know and it turns out I actually like what I'm supposed to eat. I don't feel as if I made major changes as much as fine tuning my diet, but the results are remarkable. I won't start preaching about this book, but just to say it provides basic information that's worth knowing. Even if you don't have high BP, read it and find out what you've been eating.
Sweet Spot for Brain Health is packed with valuable information about how sugar affects our body and what we can do to reduce and/or remove it-along with all the incredible healthy benefits that will come from doing so. I never knew the extent sugar played in my body until I read this amazing book.
This is a book that I will use over and over again as I combat high blood pressure in my life. The book is very detailed, providing you with all the scientific information regarding blood pressure, exercise, and diet. She doesn’t give you a quick method, but a suggestion to change your lifestyle and eating. I now eat potassium rich foods as a way of life and it is making me eat more vegetables. I recommend the paperback version if you are going to start so that you can make notes and refer back easily.
This book like many of the author's books does a great job of explaining tools that the reader can implement to help regulate their nervous system without needing to have a therapist necessarily. This particular book looks at the concept of the Vagus nerve and uses both the original theories of Dr. Stephen Porges as well as look at some of the new research that has been done in this realm to help the reader identify ways in which they can use a variety of tools and techniques to help tap into the power of the Vagus nerve to calm the nervous system and "reset" when one is caught in sustained moments of fight/flight/fear/fawn states.
